Ken Kneringer

"CrKenKneringerLoReseating A Better Image"

Ken Kneringer

Ken Kneringer, PPA Master Photographer, CPP is a nationally recognized, award winning, photographer and instructor. Ken's passion is photography, and it shows in the images he creates for his clients. Ken started messing around with photography in the early seventies, worked a short time for a commercial studio in Philadelphia, and had a small part-time glamour studio in the eighties. In 2002 Ken opened Studio K Photography in Indianapolis, Indiana with the intention of becoming a wedding and portrait studio. After photographing his first and only senior in 2002 Ken was hooked on senior photography. Today, Studio K is all about seniors and fashion, photographing around 120 clients each year. Most of our senior clients are traveling over an hour to be photographed at Studio K, with an ever-increasing percentage traveling several hours or more. We have photographed clients in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, Florida, Georgia, and Puerto Rico. Ken is working on several new projects, one for an online fashion magazine, the other a photo book featuring lady bikers from all over the United States.

Ken entered his first print competition in 2003, receiving a court of gold award, 5 PPA print merits, one show case image, and one loan collection image. In 2004 Ken was voted one of Indiana’s Top Ten Photographers, received 5 PPA print merits, one loan collection print, and his prints traveled to Korea as part of the PPA Exhibit. Awards to date include; Judges choice award (SPA), Third Place Senior (SPA), First Place Senior Folio (PPofI), PPA Photographer Of The Year, First Place Senior Image (PPofI), William Krider Award, and many others. Ken received his CPP in 2007, his Master Of Photography Degree from PPA in 2008, and will be receiving his PPA Craftsman Degree in 2009. Ken is also one of only 15 “fashion shooters” for the annual Senior Portrait Artists event.

Ken loves photography, and is now enjoying life. He is driven for a need to be the best at whatever he undertakes, and providing the best images for his clients. He also loves teaching; his wife says “It is the only time he gets to talk uninterrupted for hours at a time.” Ken just finished new website www.kenkneringer.com that will be aimed more at teaching, and photographing a variety of clients and models nation wide.

Although Ken specializes in seniors, this class is for anyone that wants to be a better photographer and create better images. This hands-on class will include two full days of shooting both indoors and outdoors using a variety of lighting sources including natural light, and flash. The third day will be dedicated to post processing, and retouching.

There are going to be times when you won’t have perfect lighting conditions in which to make a portrait.  Ken is a “real world” photographer, so this class will be targeted toward making “real world” images under a variety of less than perfect, outdoor lighting conditions. The first two mornings will consist of Ken photographing live models and demonstrating lighting techniques with the emphasis on getting great color, exposure, and contrast. The afternoons will consist of students directing and photographing the models to get the images they will need to complete their assignments.

The third day we will process a few of our raw files using Capture One or Adobe Lightroom. As we are processing the emphasis is going to be on getting great color, exposure, and contrast. After we have our images processed, we will step through a full basic retouch from start to finish. Ken will also demonstrate an easy way to make sure the images that you send to the lab will come back perfect every time!

Bring camera, lenses, an on camera flash, a computer with Photoshop and an open mind!

This program  promises to be both exciting and informative. Delving first into the foundations of great portraiture, we will study    lighting and posing in depth. Learn the traits of a classical and timeless Walden Color Study or Beau Visage painting as well as the more intimate look of a Walden Black and White Fine Art Relationship portrait. Along with learning studio lighting and its many facets, we will discuss natural  light, how to see it and more importantly  how to find it. After that, we will move on to posing, learning how to become comfortable posing your clients while mastering the skills needed to make your poses impacting and flattering. While these fundamentals will be a key part of our time together, we have much more we expect to accomplish such as: Originality and why it is so important, especially in today's market.

  • How to find "YOUR" personal style!
  • Designing and planning your sessions with your clients for the success you desire.
  • Creative ways to add value to your images.
  • Emotion - why it's important and how to inject it in your art.
  • Mixing different styles of portraiture in your business successfully.

While the how to's will be the heart of this program , we will combine it with other information that affects our success as portrait photographers. You will come away a more knowledgeable image-maker with a renewed vision and purpose.

We promise to challenge traditional thinking as we lay out bold ideas that have worked for us for over three decades. Join Beverly and Tim and hold onto your seats as we start our journey together at Winona School!
